Combination memorial celebrating the 1987 centennial of Woodward, Oklahoma, honoring Woodward veterans, and honoring the victims of the great Woodward Tornado. The Wall at Centennial Park is shaped in the form of a W standing for Woodward.
The Wall is made up of numerous memorial plaques on both sides. The back side has a lighted stage with a sound system for entertainment. Two time capsules were buried on site to preserve history and an era not to be forgotten in the future. The plaques placed on the wall are varied and have to do with events happening in the 19th & 20th century.
Memory of the Persian Gulf happened between the dates of August 1990 and February 1991. One recognizing World War II, 1941 -1946, the Korean Conflict, 1950 – 1953, and the Vietnam War, 1974 – 1982. This same plaque also contains memories of the April 9, 1947 Tornado and the Oil Boom of 1974 – 1982. A list of tornado victims is also listed on a separate section. Another plaque contains the arrival of the Railroad on April 1887. the Land Run of 1893, Oklahoma Statehood of 1907, World War I, 1917 – 1919,also the Great Depression on 1929 – 1941 and the Dust Storm of 1935 called Black Sunday.
A special memorial naming those brave soldiers, from Woodward County, who died on active duty during the Indian War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Plaza donors are listed on a separate section.
