The 32-acre Sunset Lake is seasonally stocked with catfish and trout and is bordered by a one-mile lighted walking trail that is handicap accessible. Fishing season is from January to April.
The park offers paddle boats for rent. During the summer months, Lions Club operate a miniature train that runs around the lake.
Few places provide the peace and serenity found at Sunset Lake in Thompson Park. Take a leisurely walk around the one mile concrete trail that encircles the lake. Enjoy the plant life, the ducks and geese on the lake and the restful water. Fishing is a favorite pastime at the lake. Trout and catfish are abundant. Sunset Lake is the first municipally owned lake in Oklahoma to be continually stocked with fish. Trout stamps can be obtained at City Hall for the season, which runs from January 1 to April 30.
Picnic areas are abundant, including three large, covered pavilions suitable for reunions and large parties. An amphitheater is also available for outdoor entertainment. For the young at heart, there are paddle boats, an operating miniature train, ducks to be fed, soccer field, basketball court, disc golf course and playground equipment. On the west side of the lake, there is a handicapped accessible dock. The Game Reserve is just north of the lake and boasts several wildlife specimens. Enjoy the elk, Watusi cattle, llamas, Oryx, longhorn cattle and buffalo in a calm peaceful grazing atmosphere.
